How to watermark a PDF: step by step

  1. Choose your PDF above.
  2. Type the watermark text, e.g. DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL.
  3. Pick an opacity: lighter stays readable under the text, while bolder is harder to miss or crop out.
  4. Click Add Watermark and save the stamped copy.
  5. Open the result to confirm the watermark reads clearly on every page, including any smaller or unusually-sized pages.

Why a diagonal stamp instead of a header or footer note

A small header note is easy to crop out of a screenshot or a printed page; a large diagonal watermark spanning the page is not. This tool sizes the text to fit each page's own dimensions, so a mix of portrait and landscape pages, or a stray small page in an otherwise A4 document, all get a proportionate, legible stamp rather than one sized for the first page only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I remove the watermark later?

Not with this tool: the watermark is drawn directly onto each page's content, the same as a real stamp. Keep your original, unwatermarked file if you'll need a clean copy later.

Will the watermark cover up important text?

It's semi-transparent by default (opacity 0.3), so page content stays readable underneath. Choose "Light" for a subtler stamp on dense pages.

Does it work on password-protected PDFs?

Only if you can already open the file without a password prompt in your browser. This tool doesn't bypass PDF security; it works on files you already have full access to.

Can I add a logo image instead of text?

Not yet: this tool stamps text only. For an image watermark, you currently need a desktop PDF editor.

Is there a limit on how many pages this works on?

No hard limit: every page in the PDF gets stamped. Very long documents just take a little longer since everything runs in your browser.
