Add Page Numbers

Stamp simple page numbers onto a PDF before you share it or nest it in Word as an annex. Pick a corner or bottom center and an optional starting number (useful when the PDF continues a larger packet).

Your file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to any server.

How to add page numbers to a PDF, step by step

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Select where numbers should sit and the first number to use.
  3. Click Add numbers and review a few pages for collisions with existing footers.
  4. If a footer already has numbers, crop or leave those pages alone; this tool draws a new label and does not erase old ones.

Why number the PDF instead of relying on Word’s footer

When the PDF is inserted as an image or object, Word’s footer does not number “inside” the PDF artwork. Numbering the PDF itself keeps exhibit references stable even if the surrounding Word section uses different numbering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Roman numerals?

Not in this version; output is plain decimal numbers. Use a desktop editor if you need i, ii, iii prefixes.

Will numbers cover existing content?

They sit near the margin. Busy full-bleed designs may collide; try another position or crop first.

Can I skip the cover page?

Split off the cover, number the rest starting at 1 (or 2), then merge the cover back in front.

Should I add page numbers before inserting a PDF into Word?

Yes, if the PDF will become an appendix or annex. Numbering it first keeps references correct even when it ends up as a flattened image or a separate embedded object rather than native Word pages.
